I like (maybe love) this song and love (maybe like) this video. It’s directed by Benjamin Gauvain Hoste. The Happy Hollows have a new album out called The Spells and they also have a blog.

Artist of the Month: Caleb Larsen

02.26.2010 · Posted by Roberto C. Madruga

Caleb Larsen created A Tool to Deceive and Slaughter in 2009. The idea behind this piece of art is simple: it literally sells itself. Caleb’s other work is intriguing as well, so make sure to fully explore his website.
====================================
Here’s how the artist describes it:
“Every ten minutes the black box pings a server on the internet via the ethernet connection to check if it is for sale on the eBay. If its auction has ended or it has sold, it automatically creates a new auction of itself.” webpage
====================================

=========================
Here’s how it’s described on eBay:
“Artist has created a work of art titled “A Tool to Deceive and Slaughter (2009)” (‘the Artwork’) which consists of a black box that places itself for sale on the auction website ‘eBay’ (the ‘Auction Venue’) every seven (7) days. The Artwork consists of the combination of the black box or cube, the electronics contained therein, and the concept that such a physical object ’sells itself’ every week.” product page

Nike SB Cosby (!!!) Dunk High

02.25.2010 · Posted by Roberto C. Madruga

Everyone who knows me knows I’m a huge fan of The Cosby Show. So when I saw these, I was overwhelmed with glee. It’s awesome how perfectly they captured the iconic sweater made famous by Dr. Heathcliff Huxtable. These are selling on eBay for around $175; I expect them on my feet by Fall 2010.

“The Nike SB Cosby Dunk, while it is not available yet in stores, Premium Laces in SoHo New York now has them instock online and at retail. The sneaker is inspired by the unusual colored and multi-patterned sweaters Cliff Huxtable wore on the Cosby Show.” – NSBorg

There’s also a t-shirt to coordinate with the Nike SB Cosby Dunk High.

I Hate Metal: Die Antwoord

02.24.2010 · Posted by Roberto C. Madruga

======================================================================
I’m sure by now you have all heard of the fake / real Die Antwoord. They are a wonderful South African musical act, who really (add multiple reallys) rock brains out of skulls.

———————————————————————————————
“Long story short: Die Antwoord are a completely manic rap-rave group from South Africa that have gained more than 30,000 fans on Facebook in about two weeks, thanks to a couple amazing music videos. Their overall style is called ‘zef,’ which roughly translates to ‘common’ and is typified by ‘blue eyeliner, bleached hair, sweat bands, and cars with overly powerful sound systems.’ Because of group leaders Ninja and Yo-Landi Vi$$er’s prior involvement in conceptual hip-hop projects, the group has been met with claims of inauthenticity. Are they paying tribute to or making fun of zef culture?” read interview in its entirety (pitchfork)

Everything is Wonderful

02.23.2010 · Posted by Roberto C. Madruga

Everything is a video artist showcase that I found one evening a while ago while searching for the lost jewel of the internet. There is a jewel that is from a jungle man who also has a tiger who will eat you if you smell like bacon. So I did not smell like bacon but I smelled like man, so the tiger just licked me and I went home, but I was asked to find the jewel for this jungle man that owned a tiger. So I was looking for this jewel and came upon this mountain that was made of chocolate and marshmallow. I instantly knew that my wife would love a piece of this, so I took a piece and put it in my backpack. Did I mention I was wearing a backpack? And that’s how I found Everything. There are only four episodes and I’ve posted my favorite one below. I really like the direction of Everything and can’t wait to see how it develops. Enjoy.

I ♥ Edible Crayons

02.22.2010 · Posted by Roberto C. Madruga

===============================
As if crayons couldn’t get any cooler, now they’re edible.  Actually, these “Crayons” from Luxiare are health bars and they look delicious.  How do they do it, you ask?  “Each crayon was made with color divisions. Yes the flavor is based on colors, not actual flavors… Three ingredients I used for all of the health bars were choco covered sunflower seeds, fruity pebbles (organized by color) and melted marshmellow.”  After all of the ingredients are powdered, they’re pressed into a crayon-shaped mold.  I am seriously so excited to purchase a pack of these. Check out their website for more information.

Augmented (hyper)Reality: Domestic Robocop

02.21.2010 · Posted by Roberto C. Madruga

Here’s a fantastic video that demonstrates the nightmarish (?) direction that augmented reality could take.
==================================================

=====================
“The latter half of the 20th century saw the built environment merged with media space, and architecture taking on new roles related to branding, image and consumerism. Augmented reality may recontextualise the functions of consumerism and architecture, and change in the way in which we operate within it.

A film produced for my final year Masters in Architecture, part of a larger project about the social and architectural consequences of new media and augmented reality.” – Keiichi Matsuda
